One family, one wheel, one valley
A 'csobogó' is the sound of softly rushing water. For us it is not a poetic image: the inn stands on the bank of the Szalajka, a mill wheel turns in the water by the door, and while your lunch is cooking, the stream keeps up its side of the conversation. We have cooked here since 2002, as a family, and we have believed the same thing ever since: you do not build a restaurant into this valley, you lay a table for the valley.
The house is here for a reason too: the family built it themselves, stone by stone. Ever since, the same family has lit the stove in the morning and locked up at night.
the table will wait for youThat is why the trout arrives from the neighbouring ponds, the game from the Bükk, and the cheese from small local dairies. In summer, the garden is the main dining room: a hundred and twenty seats under the trees, a cocktail bar, children playing, lantern light. In winter, forty seats in the timber cabin with mulled wine and quiet. The recipe never changes: fresh ingredients, patience, and as much hospitality as the plate will hold.
The valley's day bends this way anyhow: the little forest railway, the trout ponds and the Fátyol Waterfall are all a few steps from us, and the table will gladly wait while you walk them. If you arrive from a hike, leave room for the game dishes; if you have come just for lunch, take a streamside seat and let the water do the working.
